Current Exhibition

An Exhibition of Paintings by Stacie Schimke

June 7th- June 21st, 2013

Opening Reception: June 7th, 6-10 pm
Closing Reception: June 21st, 6-9 pm

Global Warming, 4′ x 4′ acrylic on canvas

For the month of June, Artlink’s A. E. England Gallery presents the work of Stacie Schimke. The pieces displayed in the exhibition are abstract responses to the climate change dialogue. Schimke’s textured color fields evoke the unusual and foreboding weather patterns of global warming. The large scale of her work creates unending, distant horizons that envelope the viewer in her dystopian scenes. View more of Schimke’s work.

Artist Statement:

I am inspired by design: graphic, architectural, object, interior, and the combination of color and texture. My eye is drawn to the details, the spiderweb in the corner of a door, the numbers on the face of an old pocketwatch. Photography and painting are the devices with which I display my design sense. This series of paintings expresses my disquietude with climate change – both allegorically and literally. I approached this project by studying words around climate change and reinterpeting them into abstract images.

The gallery will be closed during the months of July and August.
